Together we are an ocean…
Posted by Siobhan in Blog, Home Page Image | 0 commentsWhen we decided to start this journey, we went on a “listening tour.” We wanted to hear from as many people as possible about what was and was not working as far as health and wellness in our youth is concerned. We sent some emails and made some phone calls. And we ended up meeting or talking with people including…
- Medical Officers of Health
- City Councillors
- Executive Directors at the Fraser Mustard Institute for Human Development at University of Toronto
- Directors at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto
- members of the Ministry of Education
- members of the Ministry of Health
- Directors at the Peel Children and Youth Initiative
- high school students who are growing their own vegetables for the cafeteria with a zero carbon footprint in Canada’s first vertical aeroponic tower garden
- farms that are doing school trips for children to learn how to pick and cook fresh vegetables
- members of the George Brown Food Innovation and Research group
- Humber College research co-ordinators
- high school teachers who are offering culinary apprenticeship programs to their students and are getting young people cooking opportunities in the real world
- principals who are building gold standard health and wellness initiatives into the daily curriculum
- and many more.
Our goal now is to connect people from these groups with community members like you. Parents, teachers, students, professionals, volunteers, athletes, celebrities or politicians who are passionate about making change in their communities. We want to get everyone working together to exponentially grow programs that are working and brainstorm new ways to create the healthiest kids in the world.
Because as Ryunosuke Satoro once said, “Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”
Are you ready to jump in?
